Birds are weird. Had a pair of "not sure what the heck they were" birds in the drive Sat., picking through the snow. Looked like one of those orange winged woodpeckers I had around when I was in Calif. Never seen them here before though. Wife swears she heard humming birds, told me to get the feeder ready. Hmmmm...
My humming birds have been here for couple weeks - return customers, buzzing around the garage feeder location with no feeder. there are 3 mainstays fighting each other over the feeders looked up the red bird - Scarlet Tanager
I saw some birds here last week I have never seen before. One was like a sparrow with a yellow face, mask and horns. Another was similar small size, light brown with yellow breast. The third had a triangular body from a side view, gray and white. Not sure if and when my sibley's bird id book might get unpacked LOL>
We have has hummingbirds in Bellvue in March on certain years, go get the feeder ready and cook some juice!
Hope my family of black-headed grossbeaks are still around. I like those birds. I'd chase off the gray-jay's (camp robbers) and they'd flock back in to the feeders, let me get within 5' of them.
This was for sure a male in full spring plumage, first time for everything. We have all kinds of birds nesting right now - flickers around the garage, wrens finding everywhere they shouldn't be nesting(shelves in the garage & my bag of charcoal)
Not a rental. My friend here in Germany, it's his personal ride. Sure beats the Fusion he had as a rental in the States!
i only discovered that place because i married a north shore girl, i have not been in years but will keep it in mind to check out again , if your looking for tools i have had good luck at the hollis nh flea market ,its hit or miss but have found some gems.
We had blue jays at our previous home and they would continually raid the bird feeder. Campinspecter put chicken wire around the feeder. The juncos and smaller birds could get in and out and the jays couldn't. It worked quite well.
I think that may have been the first vehicle crash story I've seen, not blaming the weather as the "cause".
On our walks the last couple of mornings, the air has been full of bird sounds. Down by the waterfront we hear loons, seagulls and eagles. Up the hill among the houses we hear songbirds of which the robin is most common. I don't know the names of a lot of the birds around here. Later in the day the ring-necked doves coo from telephone wires and trees. Our neighbour has starlings nesting in his soffits of his house. We also have crows, of course, and blue jays. Some sort of little sparrow or finch flits around as well. When it gets warm, we will see the odd hummingbird as well.
We have had huge crowds of yellow and house finches at the feeders this year. So many that we are now making them call ahead for reservations.
