IM thinking of making a 275 gal oil tank in to a huge wood stove to heat hoping io could get 10 to 30 wheel barel loads of wood in the stove so it burns for a week with out refiling it
I think it will burn faster than you think once it gets going. Not saying it can't be done, and am curious to see how it works. Might want to check insurance also. Not trying to be a Debbie downer but man that thing would need some serious clearance and I would hate to see if it ran away.
Sumpthin that big runing away would be like trying to stop a steam engine fired with plutonium fuel rods. Stand back and watch for fallout!
There are a lot better choices. My dad built a wood stove out of a 36 in. chunk of pipe, for our hunting cabin. It was a heater for sure, if you had semi loads of fire wood to stuff in it, and get up 4 times a night to put another wheel barrow full of wood on.
That would be totally awesome and hot... just dont open the door to reload.. can we say huge flash fire if enough air ignites hot gasses built up in the box.. caplowie!!
I have one that I built and, coincidentally, is about to be fired up in a week or so for cooking syrup and lemme tell ya, it don't take long for 30 wheelbarrow loads to go through it!!
You can go on Craigslist and buy a stove for $100. I got this one and went through it. It has been doing great for 4 years already. Ash pan, temp control, nice cast iron grate, doors that seal good. Cleaned it up, painted it with grill paint.
