Gotta guess you guys don't know about the northern German saw mfg? In Hamburg? Having seen how useful stihl's warranty was on a bud's 441, I'd control my enthusiasm.
Yea right! Why not just mount a chain to the sprocket of a motorcycle and carry that around! I am/trying to keep this light weight, most of my work is on smaller stuff. What brand would that be? I was in Hamburger and Franfuter 2 weeks ago. (I work for a German company). 16:1 ??????? I would think that is a bit much, and would probably affect the performance of the motor, no? That's a lot of oil.
That's what they used to run "back in the day". Wouldn't hurt the performance of your saw much, but it would make a lot of smoke.
I have this tendency to speak for myself, thanks. It seems to me that Dolmar's/Makita's business model involves much more free & open competition than the folks in Waiblingen want. Results in much better product values in the 40-60 cc region, IMO. Much simpler service access, too. Think pulling a carb or a top-end. Much longer warranty coverage FWIW. About the value of stihl warranty: Bit back a bud bought a 441 for milling. Said it "cost $1K". After a few tankfuls, it burped and died. Turns out a spherical piece of debris popped back from muffler and got caught between piston & port edge. Dealer said it was out of warranty coverage (yer 3 mos are up), AND would cost more to fix than it's worth. May you never have to r&r p&c on one of those, ever. I'm told that 362 is similar nightmare. Bizarre design, unless it's meant to exclude non-dealers. I realize that this is after the fact in the current thread, but if it helps even one it was worth it. So, IMO a Dolmar 6100 is a much better value than a 362, it's more easily serviced, there's no clandestine operation needed for an IPL, yada, yada. You could say they're responsive to what buyers want, product and value. In that regard, Stihl has nothing on them for 40 & 50 cc either. It's all relative.
I'll take third in line! If you guys don't end up taking it, let me take it! That would make a great 3rd saw for a big bar. I know nothing about Dolmar, but there sure are a lot of interesting saw brands out there. Those Solo's look suspiciously like Stihl's?? Wonder if an engineer left and went "solo" with the design? OR is it an OEM brand, anyone know?
Solo looks like Dolmar.. Because they are kind of one and the same.. The Solo has a 65 cc Closed port jug, the Dolmar is a 64 cc Open port jug. The Solo has a 1 mm longer stroked crank which makes it 1 cc larger. It also uses a closed port cylinder, over the open port of the Dolmar/Makita Here is a Dolmar 6400 and a Solo 665.. Dolmar 6400 (Makita 6401 also shown. Same saw as Dolmar) Solo 665
That's not a 665, but there are several good models of Solo out there. Awesome saws is what they are!!
I can't believe no ones bought this saw yet... A stronger saw stock then a ported 362 http://www.amazon.com/665-20-20-Inc...=UTF8&qid=1414839592&sr=8-1&keywords=Solo+665
