saw this on craig's list and I bit. now that I've stacked short of 1 & 1/2 cords and no more to stack, let the fight begin. this guy can't believe I don't have 2 cords. let the fun begin. why can't people just deliver what they say they are. round two Wednesday afternoon.

Sorry about the problems. The issue is that so many wood sellers just dont have the equipment to deliver 2 cords at a time, and would rather short their customers than make two trips or bring it all the first time somehow. The other issue, is that most people dont know what a cord is, and never say a word. When the seller comes across someone like you that knows what a cord is, they get defensive

Saw a CList ad last night, C30 truck like mine. Guy claimed a person could haul 4 cords it!!!!!! So ~10 tons in a 1 ton truck!

Hauling 2 cords is pushing it hard!

this fellow delivered in two loads, great wood for maybe a little late season burn. mostly for next year. I don't think he took this stuff from his claimed stacks. a lot of the loads had to be finished on the first split and split again because of its size. the wood aint my bitch, it's the quantity. like all of us I just hate not getting a cord for my dollar.

on the phone he thought I lost the wood because his stuff is only 14-16" long. hell no problem if one of my 4 foot dimension is 42-45 inches4 x 3.85 x 8 would be fine. but I'm not gonna take 32" x 4' x 4' for my second cord.

OP got shorted on a 2 cord order, seller doesn't believe him. Next post says he would be okay of the stack was, say, 4' x 3.8' x 8' (stacking differences and whatnot) but his second cord measures to roughly 4'x 3' x 8' (which is more variance than one would expect), thus, OP wants seller to bring more wood

The guy should not argue. He should show up with 1/2 cord on his truck, measure your stack to verify the issue and dump the half cord with an apology.

Might be a bit of difference between a loose stacked and tight stacked,

loose and tight might be, your ad says a cord and that is 4x4x8.

I've had a few folks I probably could have dropped 1/2 a cord and sold it as being 6 and they would have been happy.

And on the other side there was one guy that made a solid wall of wood, I'm talking spent days stacking a cord to get it as tight as possible ... and got upset when the 2 cords ended up being 1 7/8 when he was done. Did bring him more, but not really because he was short, more just to keep him happy.
Leave a few customers feeling screwed over and it won't take long to have a bad name and no customers.

Same here Nate. I can't believe the number of people that are surprised at how much a cord is. You just know they've been getting shorted over the years. Good for me though, cause it makes a happy customer when I deliver a real cord :D

That is the way to do it I think. All the guys around here are selling wood by the tossed in truck load so customers never know exactly how much they are getting for their money. I sell by the cord or portion of a cord, it is easier that way.

maybe that's why they list them as a"Chord" eh? Been watching the ads, prices edging up bumping the $300/cord? mark. Might just have to sell some for some walking around cash.
just read an ad $105/ 1/3 cord, no delivery/ mixed hardwood

When I have wood delivered, which is not often, I tell them up front that if I am paying for two cords I will hold back 1/3 of the money until I stack the wood to see if it is 2 full cords. I offer to let them stay to watch me stack it. Most people refuse to sell to me, but that speaks to their integrity and not mine.
