Learnd that getting the log off the ground would help with getting fumes away.

Saw uses a lot of fuel

And milling is a LOT OF FUN

Love the pics of you and her. I like the one of her rainbow bear up on the log. Love that she loves being outside with her daddy!!

I was thinking about granbergs mini mill, but thought this one would be a little easier to set up and get square cuts. Not much more money either

It says 20" or under. Should be fine.

What ratio is your Mix? If your not running a thicker ratio? Then I would definitely add a little more oil (32:1-40:1).

    Keep us updated! :)

I run 50:1 grey bottle stihl oil for normal cutting. Bump it down a little for milling?

Tune richer and more oil for milling. You're going to use a lot more fuel than cutting firewood.

Depending on how wide I was getting 1 cut to 2 tanks of fuel.

Yes fuel burns up fast when milling. I was able to get 2 8' cuts on a 20" log with the 460

Hey guys. I recently looked at an ad on craigslist that had sawmill for the title. I know nothing about milling. But have considered it for making Pine boards out of some of the trees on my property as I thin them. What can you tell me about something like this mill in the link? How long does it take to learn how to use one of these things? I don't have the money to be buying anything right now, I am just going to start learning about it a little at a time and see if it is something I want to get into, or if I just want to sell the logs themselves.

Here is the link to the craigslist ad. Let me know when you can. http://potsdam.craigslist.org/grd/4633905048.html Thanks.

Nice mill there Swags. And nice work on those slabs!

Not a bad looking mill, that has a lot more capability then mine does. You would need to able to load logs onto it but I think you have a tractor dont you?

Yes. With forks. I won't be doing anything soon. But am thinking of how too make some cash while thinning my woods in the future. So I will need to keep investment to a minimum in order to start making some profit quick. Not looking to make a lot of money, just do somethings I enjoy, one of which is working in the woods. :saw:

That would work easier on the operator than an a
    Alaskan set up.

Looks home-made out of pallet racking. Not that that's a bad thing.

Sean's 460 isn't a stock unit. It's an AM 54mm bore. I wonder if that helps much in what he's doing with it now? It's a pretty good runner too, about even with a DP 460 in a crosscut.

I don't think it will hurt. Milling is a good test on saws.
