It's way too warm to be doing this (79 degrees) but I wanted to get this out before high water. Trouble is, I wanted to get those out last summer and had cut them to 8' to skid....then promptly forgot to get them out. So they sat in water twice in the last 2 years until I finally remembered them and got them out today. They will still be fine because they are ash and ash will take that with no problem. This was actually the last one to get out to the lane. 2 on the dray and more to load yet. The horse did not let me down! It pulled hard but with a 700 atv it was up to the task. Those kind of loads will pull extremely easy once there is just a skiff of snow on the ground. Even frost makes it super easy. But once I got on the grass it pulled rather easy but tough going on the bare dirt. A couple of wood stacks in the background.
Nice, Dennis! You've been gettin' after it lately. You'll be caught up just in time for the next GTG. Glad you're making progress. Take your time and don't over work yourself.
A good days work Dennis Yup , 79 is a little to warm for rollin logs around , have to start early if you want to beat the heat now I guess
Lookin good Dennis ! I think that middle stack in your last picture is the one I stacked........good to see it still standing !
I do not think I have seen your skid setup before. That looks like it work real well and like you said it is even better with a little snow on the ground. Carries a pretty good load of logs too.
Extremely simple to build and you can build it to most any size you need. This was built to haul behind the atv but I may build a bigger one for behind the tractor. I did haul a big load out with the tractor and bent the pin! I was afraid I might pull the chains right off but it held together. And yes, with some snow you can really haul a large load with ease.
I did take the tractor to try to get the logs out but it was just too thick in there except for 2 logs that I was able to move to the lane. Then the lane was too narrow to get the logs through so I gave up and went back for the atv. It is sometimes very nice to have choices on how things get done.
How do you hold the logs on and keep them from rolling? Just chain, binder, etc. Sent from my SM-S320VL using Tapatalk
Big loads you would haul with tractor might be best with chain and binder but heavy ratchet straps will work. Smaller loads and loads like hauled behind atv a ratchet strap works just fine.
